How to prepare for a compliance audit
A readiness guide for organizing policies, evidence, vendors, training, risks, incidents, and control ownership before an independent audit or review.
Start with scope
A clinic or healthcare startup should know which locations, systems, vendors, workflows, and time period are in scope. Without scope, teams gather too much irrelevant evidence and still miss important gaps.
Build the evidence map
Map each policy and operating process to evidence: access reviews, training records, vendor BAAs, risk analysis, incident logs, backup reports, MFA exports, and remediation notes. Evidence should prove both design and operation where applicable.
Run a readiness pass first
Before sharing materials externally, check for stale policies, missing owners, incomplete training, expired BAAs, unresolved high risks, and evidence that includes PHI unnecessarily.
